For years, David Mark stood as a symbol of loyalty within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). A founding member and former President of the Nigerian Senate, Mark was often seen as one of the last true guardians of the party’s original ideals.
Through losses and victories, betrayals and comebacks, he remained steadfast, vocal, and unshaken.
David Mark’s Letter
But on Friday, June 27, 2025, Mark made a decision that sent ripples through the political landscape. In a letter signed by him and addressed to his Otukpo Ward 1, he formally announced his resignation from the PDP.
The news caught many off guard, especially those who remembered his fierce commitment to the party even after its crushing defeat in the 2015 presidential election.
At the time, when other political heavyweights were jumping ship, Mark had famously declared himself “the last man standing.”
He stayed behind, working behind the scenes to rebuild the PDP, mend internal cracks, and restore public confidence.
However, in his resignation statement, Mark revealed that the internal problems in the party had become unbearable.
“Recent events marked by deepening divisions, persistent leadership crisis, and irreconcilable differences have reduced the party to a shadow of its former self,” he wrote. “The PDP is now a subject of public ridicule.”
It was clear that this was not a decision made lightly. He explained that after extensive consultations with his family, friends, and political allies, he chose to walk away not out of bitterness, but out of hope for something new.
That “something new” is a coalition of opposition movements with a bold mission: to rescue Nigeria’s democracy.
The coalition has picked the ADC as its platform to face the APC in 2027. Now a leader in the group, David Mark begins a new chapter not standing alone, but with others who want a better Nigeria.
