The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that is currently taking place in Birmingham, England, from 28 July to 8 August 2022.

Nigeria, finished at the seventh spot with a total number of 35 medals from the competition, 12 gold medal, 9 silver medal and 14 bronze medal.

Nigerian Athletes did not fail to lift high the colors of the nation by shining bright at the commonwealth games 2022. Medals from sporting activities such as weightlifting, short put, long jump among others, put Nigeria among the top contenders at the competition.

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, showed class by setting a world record in the 100m hurdle, Adijat Adenike Olarinoye and Rafiatu Folashade Lawal also won gold medal in the women’s 59kg weightlifting event while Adenike won gold in the women’s 55kg weightlifting event.

Each medal at the competition comes with monetary reward, for instance a gold medalist would get $5000, silver medalist $3000 while a bronze medalist get $2000. Team Nigeria would most certainly becoming back home $115,000 (one hundred and fifteen thousand dollars)

Meanwhile, the federal government of Nigeria, also promised to handsomely reward the Nigerian athletes who win medal at the commonwealth games 2022
