The 39-year-old football icon, formerly of Real Madrid, was visibly emotional after Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak saved his initial penalty in extra time.

However, Ronaldo redeemed himself by successfully converting his second attempt during the decisive shootout.

“This is without a doubt my last European Championship,” Ronaldo stated in an interview with Portuguese outlet O Jogo.

Reflecting on his illustrious career, he added, “I don’t get emotional about the end of my football journey, but rather about everything that the sport involves.”

Ronaldo, who has played 1,266 career matches, emphasized the deep connection he feels to the game, his supporters, and his family.

“It’s not about leaving football,” he said. “If I do, what else would I need to achieve? It’s not about getting one more point or one less point.”

“Making people happy is what motivates me the most.”

With this announcement, Ronaldo’s fans worldwide will look forward to witnessing the final chapter of his storied career in the ongoing European Championship.
