* Extend enforcement to markets, shopping malls, others in Lagos

* Release telephone lines to report non compliance 

In defiance to the Lagos State Government directive on the ban on social gathering , the Police have shut down 37 places, comprising schools, clubs, worship and event centres in the state.

This is just as they have begun moves to extend the enforcement to market places and stores in Lagos, with a view to preventing the spread of Corona virus.

Giving a breakdown of the places that were shut down, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Elkana Bala, said “Lagos State Police Command has in the last six days deployed its resources across the State to ensure that the guidelines and directives issued by both the Federal and State Governments to prevent the spread of Corona virus are fully obeyed. The enforcement team shut down eight clubs, 15 schools, six event centres and eight places of worship for non compliance.

“With the directives issued by Lagos State Government on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 the enforcement will now be extended to all markets and stores, on Thursday, March 26,2020″.

He however clarified that markets selling food items, water, medicine, medical equipment and other related essential life saving products, were exempted.

Corporate bodies such as financial institutions, telecommunication companies and businesses , according to him, were also not affected by the ban. But he advised operators to ensure that their employees, customers and clients were not more than 25 in number at a time.

He added that bank staff should be posted to Automated Teller Machine ATM stands to ensure that customers using the services spaced themselves to avoid body contact.

He added that ” eateries should encourage their customers to use take away services and those who must sit in the restaurants/eateries should apply the required spacing guidelines of not having more than 25 persons at a time, including their staff.

“Hotels should only operate lodging and accommodation services with minimal number of staff on duty. Conference and event halls, swimming pools and other services attracting crowds should be suspended in line with the order and directives of government.

” The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu , enjoins the good people of the state to obey the safety regulations put in place by government for the benefit of everyone. Violators will be dealt with in line with extant laws. Together we can prevent the spread of COVID-19.
