COVID-19: Governor Nyesom Wike imposes total lockdown on Bonny, Onne

has on Saturday imposed a total lockdown on Bonny Local Government Area (LGA) and Onne Community in Eleme (LGA).

The Governor stated that the lockdown will commence from tomorrow, Sunday, June 21, 2020.

The development followed panic generated by the death of a manager from the pandemic and positive cases among co staffs of the branch of a new generation bank in port’s town of Onne while Bonny Island, Nigeria’s oil hub is being hit with multiple COVID-19 related deaths and increasing infections.

Wike in a Saturday evening broadcast state that, “Pursuant to the fundamental objective of stopping spread of coronavirus, we have reviewed the situation in Bonny Island and Onne and come to the conclusion that a total lockdown is necessary at this time to shut continuing spread of the virus in these communities.”
