Court Postpones Money Laundering Case Against Eezee Tee, Mercy Chinwo’s Former Manager

A former music promoter and manager of singer Mercy Chinwo, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu ThankGod, popularly known as Eezee Tee, will have to return to court another day.

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos adjourned the case until September 26, 2025.

Presiding over the case, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke granted the adjournment during a hearing on Friday,

This follows a request by the defence counsel.

Eezee Tee, alongside his company, Eezee Global Concepts Limited, is being prosecuted by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Key Allegations

This on a seven-count amended charge bordering on money laundering and foreign exchange violations.

The EFCC alleges that the gospel music executive engaged in unauthorised foreign exchange transactions. This transactions involve several hundreds of thousands of US dollars, without being licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to the anti-graft agency, this constitutes a breach of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, as the defendant is not recognised as an authorised forex dealer.

One of the charges says Eezee Tee of negotiated a forex deal with a private individual, thereby sidestepping regulatory guidelines.

Courtroom Development

At the resumed hearing, the EFCC prosecutor Bilkisu Buhari-Bala presented the commission’s first witness, Mohammed Timta.

Mohammed Timta is expected to provide key evidence to support the prosecution’s case.

However, in a twist, defence counsel Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN) told the court that both parties were engaged in settlement talks that could potentially lead to an out-of-court resolution.

Also, he requested additional time for negotiations to be finalised.

He assured the judge that if talks fail, the defence is prepared to proceed with full trial.

Justice Aneke granted the application and adjourned the matter, encouraging both sides to use the time productively.

The outcome of this high-profile case remains uncertain.

However, it continues to attract public interest due to Eezee Tee’s prominent role in Nigeria’s gospel music scene and his past affiliation with one of the country’s leading gospel singers.
