President Muhammadu Buhari will swear in a new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) following the resignation of Tanko Muhammad who has been holding the office since 2019.
The anticipated swearing-in of the next CJN was confirmed in a tweet by Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential advisor.
According to rumors, Mr. Muhammad resigned from the Supreme Court due to health reasons, and Olukayode Ariwoola, the next-highest ranking Justice, was going to be sworn in to take his position.

When the procedure for Mr. Ariwoola’s substantive appointment, which includes a proposal by the National Judicial Council (NJC) and confirmation by the President subject to the Senate’s review, is concluded, he will be appointed in an acting capacity.
