Five individuals have reportedly lost their lives due to a cholera outbreak in Lagos State.
The communities affected include Eti Osa, Lagos Island, Ikorodu, and Kosofe Local Government Areas of Lagos State.
Additionally, over 60 people have been hospitalised as a result of this highly contagious disease.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi highlighted these figures while discussing the state’s surveillance reports.
He emphasized that the state government has called for increased vigilance and the adoption of precautionary measures to prevent further spread of the potential cholera outbreak.
However, Cholera is an acute diarrheal illness caused by infection of the intestine with Vibrio cholerae bacteria.
Also, It can lead to severe dehydration and death if not properly managed.
