China’s weekly farm-produce prices slightly up

The Peoples’ Republic of China farm-produce prices went up slightly last week, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

From Aug. 9 to Aug. 15, the overall price of farm produces increased by 0.1 per cent on a weekly basis.

The wholesale price of pork dropped by 1.1 per cent week-on-week to 20.33 Yuan, (about 3.14 U.S. dollars) per kg.

The wholesale prices of mutton remained flat, while and those of beef gained 0.2 per cent.

The wholesale price of eggs increased 3.4 per cent on a weekly basis, and that of chicken gained 0.1 per cent week on week.

The average wholesale prices of 30 types of vegetables went up 0.9 per cent from a week earlier.

Food accounts for approximately one-third of China’s consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation.

The CPI rose by one per cent year-on-year in July, lower than the 1.1 per cent year-on-year growth recorded in June, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed.
