Beauty queen, Chidimma Adetshina, is set to lose her South African identity and travel documents.
The Department of Home Affairs launched an investigation into her status after she became a finalist in the Miss South Africa pageant.
Also, this prompts criticism regarding her eligibility due to her Mozambican mother and Nigerian father.
Chidimma Adetshina withdrew from the competition in August after the department announced that her mother could have committed “identity theft” to obtain South African citizenship.
Also, this revelation prompted her decision to step back from the pageant.
On Tuesday, the Department of Home Affairs informed a parliamentary committee that Adetshina and her mother would lose their identity documents.
However, they missed a Monday deadline to justify why they should be allowed to keep them.
The department’s head official, Tommy Makhode, revealed that the case had been referred to the Hawks.
This is a special unit investigating serious crimes.
In August, the department clarified that Chidimma Adetshina was an infant when her mother allegedly committed the identity fraud.
