Nigerian singer Shallipopi recently offered words of advice to his fellow artists.
He encouraged them to set their performance fees in line with their true market value.
During an interview with News Central TV, Shallipopi weighed in on the ongoing debate about the high fees charged by Nigerian artists.
He urged artists to be realistic and strategic when determining their prices.
He explained that an artist’s value is directly tied to the success and reach of their music, particularly the number of streams and overall popularity.
Also, he disputes claims that Nigerian artists have priced themselves out of the local market.
However, Shallipopi argued that those whose music reaches the same streaming numbers as their American counterparts should rightfully charge fees that reflect this level of success.
“It all depends on where your music has reached and how far it has gone,” he said.
His comments shows the importance of self-awareness and understanding of one’s standing in the industry.
