Usually, a cesarean section, or c-section is a medical operation advised by doctors when it is detected that a woman cannot deliver a baby through her vagina.

However, this surgical operation is carried out only with the consent of the woman in childbirth labour or a next of kin who could be her partner or a relative.
The consent of a woman’s next of kin could come in when she is not in a position to make the decision herself.
For example, if she has passed out due to dehydration and exhaustion during labour.
Sadly, we have heard of cases where a woman’s partner refuses to consent to a cesarean section; in some of these cases, the women lose their lives.
In today’s Daybreak edition with IbrandTV, Uche Onodu and Blessed Omonose shared their opinions on the subject matter.
The Discussion
The discussion was centred on whether a man has the right to reject a Caesarian section for his wife or not.
Uche emphasized the importance of prior communication in marriage, suggesting that couples should discuss critical matters like this during pregnancy.
“While I agree the man should sign, can we have these conversations early enough, like six to seven months into the pregnancy, before it becomes a life-or-death situation?”
In addition, she stressed that while a husband has a say in his wife’s care, it’s essential to consider the wife’s autonomy and well-being.
Adding to the discussion, Mr. Blessed Omonose shared the same point of view with Uche.
He noted that addressing these conversations before marriage will prevent crises and indecisiveness at crucial times.
Is Cesarean Section Good Or Bad?
He said individuals may reject procedures based on their church’s stance, causing tension in the marriage.
“By discussing these issues early on, couples can prevent complications and ensure a united front in critical situations.”
IbrandTV took to the streets of Lagos to gather opinions on this issue.

While some believed that a husband’s right to reject a Caesarian section should be respected, others argued that the wife’s health and well-being should take precedence.
