K-pop superstar J-hope, from group BTS, completed his 18-month mandatory military service on Thursday.
He expressed his deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by soldiers to keep South Korea safe.
Fans were overjoyed at his return to the music industry with many shedding tears of happiness.
Since 2022, the seven members of BTS have been on a self-proclaimed “hiatus” to fulfill their military duties.
This is a requirement for all South Korean men under 30 due to ongoing tensions with North Korea.
J-hope, the group’s main dancer, was warmly greeted by fellow band member Jin—who completed his own service in June—after emerging from his military base in Wonju.
He paused to salute waiting reporters and fans.
Also, he said: “Over the past year and a half, I’ve come to understand the immense efforts and sacrifices soldiers make to protect our country.”
However, he also encouraged the public to continue supporting those in active service.
To his fans, J-hope offered heartfelt gratitude,
He said: “Thank you so much for waiting for me. I truly appreciate all the love and support you’ve shown” .

Outside the military base, fans had gathered with vibrant banners that read; “The sun is finally shining upon ARMY” (the official BTS fanbase) and “My bank account! It’s ready to go straight to J-hope!”.
