Veteran highlife maestro, Bright Chimezie, has expressed heartfelt gratitude after Afrobeats heavyweight, Davido, acknowledged him as a key inspiration behind his track “With You,” featuring Omah Lay.
In an interview with HipTV, Chimezie disclosed that Davido reached out to personally credit his 2018 classic, Because of English, as the creative muse for the song.
Overwhelmed with joy, Bright Chimezie praised Davido’s humility, saying he felt honoured and deeply moved by the gesture.
“Words can’t describe how I feel. I’m extremely delighted and grateful to Davido for recognising me as a source of inspiration,” Chimezie said.
According to the highlife legend, he had no idea his song had influenced Davido’s work until the Afrobeats star called to inform him.
“I didn’t even know With You was inspired by Because of English. It was Davido who reached out to tell me. His humility and honesty meant so much to me,” he added.
Chimezie, who recently signed a publishing deal with Sony Music, confirmed he was still very much active in the music industry.
