Breaking: Lagos records no COVID-19 case, as toll nears 700

Lagos State which has been the epicenter of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria  recorded no new case on Monday, as the nation’s total cases near 700.

This is coming even as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, confirmed another death to the pandemic.

According to NCDC, “Thirty-eight new cases of COVID-19 have been reported across eight states in the country.

“23 in Kano, five in Gombe, three in Kaduna, two in Borno, two in Abia, and one in FCT, Sokoto, Ekiti respectively.

“As at 11:10 pm 20th April there are 665 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria.  Discharged: 188, deaths: 22.”

A breakdown of cases by states puts Lagos top with 376 cases , FCT-89, Kano-59, Osun-20, Oyo-16, Edo-15, Ogun-12, Kwara-9, Katsina-12, Bauchi-7, Kaduna-9, Akwa Ibom-9, Delta-4, Ekiti-4, Ondo-3, Enugu-2, Rivers-2, Niger-2, Benue-1, Anambra-1, Borno-3, Jigawa-2, Abia-2, Gombe-5 and Sokoto-1

Meanwhile, the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, DICON has produced a low-cost mechanical ventilator ‘DICOVENT’, capable of using Alternative Current, AC, and Direct Current, DC, in the treatment of Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients.

The corporation also produced using 100 per cent local content materials are Personnel Protective Equipment for health workers in the front lines and high-quality hand sanitizers known as ‘DICOSANZ’.

In a Joint Media briefing addressed by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, the Director-General, Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Major General Victor Ezugwu, stated that, DICON has the capacity to produce 100 of the Ventilators in a month while it has the capacity to mass-produce the PPEs and hand sanitizers when required.

While noting the Kaduna state government, for instance, has ordered for thousands of the personnel protective equipment for its healthcare practitioners, the DICON DG said the organization has the capacity, professionals and know how to produce any of the items when needed.
