The Lebanese government has today, announced its decision to step down amid protests and fury over the August 4 Beirut blast that claimed the lives of over 150 people.

The country’s Premier, Hassan Diab, announced the decision after blaming the blast on years of incompetence and corruption of the ruling class.

He said, “Today we are heeding the people and their demands to hold accountable those responsible for a disaster,” he said in a televised address, blaming a “corrupt” political class that has ruled Lebanon for more than 30 years for the August 4 explosion.

“This is why today I announce the resignation of the government.”
