Barely one month after the removal of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Managing Director, Gur Mohammed, the Federal government has again sacked the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET), Marilyn Amobi.

This was contained in a press statement made available to iBrandTV by Aaron Artimas, Special Adviser to the Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman on Media and Communications.

According to the statement, Amobi was dismissed as part of the realignment and reorganisation of the Power sector.

Amobi has been immediately replaced by Nnaemeka Ewelukwa, the NBET’s General Counsel and Secretary.

According to the release, the decision of the Minister of Power was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Eweluka has garnered experience in the power sector, working in private and public companies for over two decades.

Recall that the Minister of Power, Saleh had earlier announced the dismissal of Amobi in December 2019 citing countless complaints against her as reason for the decision.

Eweluka was also announced as his replacement at the time.

Buhari had reversed the decision at the time and also disapproved the appointment of Eweluka in a memo sent to the Minister.

The new NBET boss Eweluka holds a Bachelors of Law degree from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and a Masters in International Business Law from the London School of Economics. He also holds a PhD from the Queen Mary, University of London with focus on privatization and electricity reform in Nigeria.

The new NBET boss practised commercial and corporate law after his Call to the Nigerian Bar. While in the United Kingdom, he worked with the solicitors firm, Patterson Sebastian & Co and also taught International Trade Law at Middlesex University and SOAS, University of London.
