Newcastle United are set to lose the service of yet another key star for the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool as Sven Botman picks up an injury.
Newcastle are set to take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on March 16 in the hunt for their first official trophy since their Championship title win in 2016.
However, their hopes of winning the trophy against the Premier League leaders have taken a few blows in recent weeks.
The Magpies have suffered injuries to Alexander Isak and Lewis Hall, while Anthony Gordon has been suspended for the clash after his red card against Brighton in the FA Cup.
The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has now reported that Newcastle centre-back Botman is also expected to miss the Carabao Cup final as the Dutch defender has picked up a knee injury and is now set to undergo surgery after he visited a specialist on March 4.
Eddie Howe will now be keenly observing Isak’s recovery for the clash, as he will want the in-form Swedish striker available for the match against Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United have also launched an appeal against Gordon’s suspension as they want the winger available.

Before their Carabao Cup final clash against Liverpool on Sunday, March 16, the Magpies will have to take on West Ham in the Premier League on Monday, March 10 as they will look to get back into form.
