The Borno State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Usakahyel Adamu for killing his 90-year-old grandfather, Yakubu Ibrahim in Kwaya-Kussar Local Government Area of the state.
DSP Nahum Daso, the spokesperson of the command, paraded Adam and 11 other suspects arrested for culpable homicide, vandalization, possession of Marijuana, and theft at the Police headquarters, Maiduguri on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
According to the PPRO, the suspect used a hoe to hit his grandfather in the head during an altercation, killing the old man on the spot.
“On July 7, 2024 at about 1600HRS One Adamu Yakubu ‘M’ of Paga Gusi Village Kwaya – Kussar L.G.A reported at Kwaya Kusar Police Station that, on the same date at about 1400HRS his son, one Usakahyel Adamu ‘M’ 24yrs used a hoe and hit his grandfather one Yakubu Ibrahim ‘M’ 90yrs on his head as a result he sustained serious injury and died on the spot,” the statement read.
What Transpired
“Investigation further revealed that the said Usakahyel had an altercation with his grandfather on the allegation that his grandfather was insulting him and pushing him without any reasonable cause.
“The suspect has been arrested and the hoe was recovered and registered as an exhibit. Suspect will be charged to the DPP for legal advice and prosecution.
“Also, the suspect told journalists that he had seizures in his room and that after recovering, he asked his grandfather, who came to see him, what occurred, but
the elderly man refused to respond.

“He was just insulting me, and when I tried to get out of the room he pushed me back. I then picked a hoe and hit him on his back and head. I was not in my senses when I did that, I am really sorry,” Adamu said.
