Indeed, nobody knows tomorrow. If you are in doubt about this popular phrase, then ask anyone in Borno State.

Just last week, many residents in Borno State would never have believed that they would be homeless, even if they were told by a soothsayer.

This is because, for over 30 years, they have never experienced such calamity as what befell them last week.

On that fateful day, residents were busy going about their normal lives when they began to notice something strange.

The earth did not feel as it used to.

It was cold beneath their feet and the wind left them in shivers.

Many may have thought that the cloud was pregnant and ready to rain.

But to their greatest surprise, a flood like never before swept through the state.

The flood was caused by the collapse of the Alau Dam last week, a massive torrent of water inundated the city.

As we speak, over one million residents have been displaced.

Also, the flood caused extensive property damage.

The floods impacted more than 40,000 individuals, resulting in at least 37 fatalities and 58 injuries reported thus far.

This flooding crisis is one of the worst in over 30 years in the state, leaving families and children without essential needs such as shelter, healthcare, education, clean water, and food.

This tragic incident stirred emotions from Nigerians.

States and national assembly members, state governments, agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and individuals rushed to assist the victims of the devastating flood.

Now, the Borno State government has unveiled a comprehensive list of pledges and donations made so far.

The media aide to Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, Abdurrahman Bundi, stated in a press release on Wednesday that not all amounts listed in the pledge report have yet been credited to the Maiduguri relief fund.
