Body odor is a common issue caused by bacteria breaking down sweat on the skin’s surface. It’s a natural process, but nobody enjoys the unpleasant smell that comes with it.

There have been a lot of conversations about body odor among Nigerians lately, especially for people who find themselves in crowded places.

Body Odor: How To Prevent It

It is primarily caused by sweat mixing with bacteria on the skin.

Areas with more sweat glands, like the underarms, groin and feet are particularly prone to odor.

Also, factors such as hormonal changes, diet, and certain medical conditions can exacerbate body odor.

Use Antiperspirants or Deodorants

To get rid of body odor and bacteria, take a daily shower with antibacterial soap.

Particular attention should be paid to odor-prone regions including the feet and underarms.

Also, after taking a bath, make sure you completely dry off to reduce moisture, which is ideal for bacteria.

Antiperspirants work by reducing sweat production, while deodorants mask odor with fragrance.

However, it is important that you apply antiperspirant or deodorant to clean, dry skin, preferably before bed for maximum effectiveness.

Wear clothes made from natural fibers like cotton, which allow your skin to breathe and reduce sweating.
