Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has revealed that only three local government areas are currently under attack by suspected herdsmen, down from 17 previously affected.
Speaking on Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme, the governor credited his administration with significantly reducing the scale of insecurity in the state since assuming office.
Governor Hyacinth Alia noted that through persistent efforts, the number of affected LGAs dropped from 17 to nine, then to six, and now just three.
“That’s a huge milestone,” Alia stated.
“You can only truly appreciate it if you’re within the state or fully aware of the situation. There are still frustrations, but we’ve made serious progress.”
Despite this claim, violent attacks have continued.
In recent days, suspected herdsmen launched a deadly assault on Yelewata community in Guma LGA, one of the areas still under threat.
Just hours later, a similar invasion occurred in Tse Yange, a Tiv settlement in Obi LGA of neighbouring Nasarawa State.
Reports indicate the assailants arrived on motorbikes, killed the village head, and abducted multiple residents.

While the governor maintains that security operations are yielding results, the frequency and brutality of these attacks continue to stir fear and frustration among residents.
