Hedwig Waltmans-Molier, the wife of Dutch ambassador to Lebanon, Jan Waltmans, has died.

She succumbeed to injuries sustained in the Beirut explosion.

Netherlands’ ministry of foreign affairs broke the news of her death today in a statement recounting the incidence and her eventual passing.

“It is with dismay and great sadness that we report the death of our colleague Hedwig Waltmans-Molier. She succumbed to injuries sustained in the massive explosion in Beirut.

“Hedwig was standing in her living room next to her husband when she was hit, sheerly by bad lack, by the explosion,”the ministry said.

The 55-year-old was one of five Dutch citizens confirmed to have been hit by debris, but was the only one to die.

The blast in Lebanon claimed 154 lives, and left many others injured.
