The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had earlier ordered power distribution companies in Nigeria to initiate a compensation for Band A customers who were shortchanged in April despite the increased tariff rate tied to a minimum 20-hour daily supply.

Customers’ spirits were lifted at the news of this order, but there is more that the commission is not telling them.

So, our correspondents reached out to NERC’s Media and Publicity representative for clarification, the Commission declined to grant an interview.

The news of the order for compensation, had triggered a feeling of joy for the people on the band who had felt cheated by the distribution companies.

They had promised a 20-hour power supply, but for most of the time, power supply had fallen below 18 hours.

As a result, there was outcry, with many pf them opting for solar systems.

However, to appease them the NERC ordered that they should be compensated for the lost hours.

One thing many of them do not know is that the commission did not give the distribution companies a timeline for the actual implementation of the compensation.

It is for this reason that iBrand reached out to the commission for clarification, but they declined the request.

Repeated efforts to get a formal response or commitment from the appropriate authorities have so far proved futile, leaving affected consumers and stakeholders in a state of uncertainty.
