The visit of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections to the immediate past president Muhammadu Buhari has gotten tongues wagging.

Atiku, a former Vice President, visited Buhari at his Daura residence on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

The immediate past Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, alongside other PDP stakeholders accompanied Atiku on his visit.


Immediately after this report surfaced, Nigerians wasted no time in sharing their reactions.

While many directly suggest that the former vice president is preparing ahead of the 2027 elections, others have advised Atiku to allow Buhari enjoy his retirement.

What Nigerians Are Not Seeing 

However, there are few who have chosen to look beyond the ordinary, beyond what many Nigerians are not seeing.

This category of people see Atiku’s visit as a confirmation of his resilience.

To them, Atiku has continued to show that he is a democrat with an unrelenting spirit.

You see, if Atiku Abubakar emerges as a presidential candidate in 2027, then that will be the third time in a row that he will be contesting for that position.

Indeed, all fingers are pointed towards this direction as Atiku has visited some strategic individuals in the country.

Atiku’s Meeting With Buhari

Atiku’s visit to Buhari comes few days after he paid a similar visit to former Military President, Ibrahim Babagida and former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, in Niger State.

Before now, he had hosted Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

This had left Nigerians with talks of a possible merger.

Details of Atiku’s meeting with former President Buhari is yet to emerge as no official statement has been issued yet.
