The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) from the Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State, held a solidarity rally.
They demanded that the governing councils of several universities intervene in the cases of members whose appointments were terminated.
Reports indicate that lecturers from the following universities face issues: Lagos State University, Ojo; Kogi State University, Ayingba; Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.
Also, lecturers from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma; Chukwuemeka Odumegu Ojukwu University, Igbariam; and Federal University of Technology, Owerri were affected.
During the protest, Dr. Shehu El-Rasheed, the branch Chairman, and Mohammed Musa, the Secretary, addressed the crowd.
ASUU Highlights Lecturers’ Struggles
They highlighted the difficulties faced by their colleagues and called on the governing councils of the affected institutions to reinstate the lecturers, promote them, and pay their withheld salaries.

El-Rasheed stated: “Our colleagues in these universities are undergoing different forms of victimization, such as illegal termination of appointments, denial of promotions, and withholding of salaries”.
He continued: “Some of these cases are in court, but delays in the judicial process have led to untold hardships for the affected colleagues in this tough economic climate.
“We believe that justice delayed is justice denied”.
El-Rasheed stressed the need for governing councils to address these issues promptly to alleviate the suffering of the affected members.
He said that “the ASUU-FUK calls on the concerned governing councils and visitors of the respective universities to take decisive action to resolve these lingering issues.
“This will enable a smoother operation of the universities”
