The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday extended its six-month-old strike indefinitely until the Federal Government meets its demands.

ASUU extended the industrial action after reviewing progress reports on ongoing negotiations with the Federal Government in the last four weeks when it rolled over the strike.

Last week, the Minister of Education Adamu Adamu said the Federal Government had addressed most of ASUU’s demands including the release of N50b for the payment of earned allowances for academic and non-academic and non-academic staff of universities.

ASUU had faulted the government for failing to meet some lingering demands which led to the suspension of its strike in 2020.

The union blamed the government for failing to release revitalization funds for universities, the failure to release the white paper report of the visitation panel to universities, and failure to deploy the University Transparency Accountability System to pay salaries and allowances of lecturers.
