Abia State federal lawmaker, Alex Ikwechegh, has been granted a ₦500,000 bail after pleading not guilty in the case involving the assault on a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.
This episode of drama started with an altercation at the lawmaker’s residence in the Maitama area of Abuja.
The bolt driver had gone there to deliver a package to Ikwechegh.
However, thing got heated up and things got out of hand.
The disagreement led to the lawmaker assaulting the cab driver, threatening to make him disappear from Nigeria without any consequence.
A viral video circulating on social media shows Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North and South Federal Constituency, slapping and verbally abusing the driver for requesting that he approach the car to receive a delivery.
Ikwechegh threatened the driver, claiming his position in the House of Representatives would shield him from repercussions, even if the Inspector-General of Police were informed.

He also allegedly damaged the driver’s phone, tore his clothes, and refused to pay for the service, threatening further harm.
This video sparked so much outrage on social media with Nigerians calling for the lawmaker to be punished.
The pressure got so much that he was arrested by the police.
He was dragged to court.
There, he pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge bordering on assault and threat to life in charges filed by the office of the Inspector-General of Police against him.
After the hearing, the lawmaker was granted bail by a magistrate court in Kuje, Abuja.
