Angel Correa is said to have turned down Premier League bids in order to prolong his contract with Atlético Madrid.

Correa joined Atlético from San Lorenzo in 2014, but did not make his debut until the following season while recovering from a heart operation in New York City. His early seasons as a Rojiblanco were full of ups and downs, and he was on the verge of joining AC Milan in 2019 as part of a team restructure.

But Correa opted to stay, and his 17 overall goal contributions (along with a career-high 29 LaLiga starts) helped Atlético win the league. This season, the Argentinian has maintained his solid form, with six goals and four assists in 19 league appearances, putting him on track for his first double-digit scoring season.

Atletico Madrid stated on Wednesday that Angel Correa’s contract had been extended until 2026.

“Angel Correa’s contract with our club has been extended until 2026, and he will continue to wear the red and white shirt for four more seasons,” the club announced.

Correa has appeared in 305 games for the Red and White, scoring 53 goals and assisted on 51 goals. His previous contract was set to end in 2024, and this new deal will keep him working past the age of 31. If his health permits, he will become one of only nine Atlético players to achieve 400 games.

“I never expected to stay for so long because I see players and they frequently change teams,” Correa said in a club interview published Tuesday. “This feels like my home, and I’m grateful to have spent so much time here.”

“Before I arrived, the club took a chance on me. They covered the cost of my surgery. I will be eternally thankful. They’ve always given me their love.”
