In the midst of Nigeria’s tough economic times, a new effort brings hope to struggling families.

Egoras, a local startup, has launched a program to sell discounted Ella rice at ₦45,000 per 50kg bag.

The initiative comes as many Nigerians face rising living costs and find it difficult to afford basic food items.

Speaking about the new project, Egoras CEO Harry Ugoji shared on Thursday that the company aims to ease the burden on households.

The economy has impacted these households the hardest.

According to Ugoji, the current economic situation has caused financial strain for many families, especially with inflation rates exceeding 30 percent.

This has made staple foods like rice unaffordable.

To help, Egoras is selling Ella rice at less than half its usual market price, making it an affordable option for families in need.

Since the program’s launch, over 1,000 bags of locally produced rice have already been distributed in Abuja.

The distribution has now expanded to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with plans to bring the affordable rice to Lagos soon.

To ensure fairness, Egoras has set a one-bag-per-customer policy to prevent resellers from taking advantage of the lower prices.

“We know this effort is small, but it can provide some relief to families struggling with high food prices,” Ugoji said.

“Every bag of rice sold at this price helps a family get through these tough times.”

He also highlighted that purchasing is made easy through their Telegram mini-app, making the process more accessible for everyone.
