Afam Osigwe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has officially been sworn in as the 32nd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

The swearing-in ceremony was held in Lagos.

Osigwe succeeded Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, whose term concluded on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Osigwe gave his inaugural speech.

He pledged to hold both federal and state governments accountable, particularly on issues related to justice, equity, and the rule of law.

Also, he emphasised the critical role the NBA plays in society.

Furthermore, he reaffirmed the NBA’s commitment to ensuring that government policies align with the needs and aspirations of the people.

Osigwe also expressed gratitude to his fellow candidates, Tobenna Erojikwe and Chukwuka Ikwazom, SAN.

The new NBA president thanked them for maintaining a high level of decorum throughout the election process.

He extended an invitation for them to work with him in advancing the goals of the NBA.

Osigwe highlighted his commitment to prioritising the welfare and professional development of lawyers.

His words: “We will do our utmost best to ensure that we fulfil our promises to engender an NBA that places lawyers at the centre of its programmes.”

The inauguration of the new NBA President and National Officers marks the conclusion of the association’s week-long annual general conference, which began on August 23.
