Nigerian football star Ademola Lookman has proudly presented his 2024 CAF Player of the Year award to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The presentation took place on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Lagos House in Marina.

Lookman, who recently made history by becoming the African Footballer of the Year, visited the two leaders in the company of his father and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka.

During the visit, both President Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu congratulated the footballer and praised him for his hard work, discipline, and the honour he brought to Nigeria through his achievements in football.

Ademola Lookman had a remarkable 2023/24 football season.

He helped his Italian club, Atalanta, win the UEFA Europa League, scoring a stunning hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.

His performance also earned him a place in the Europa League Team of the Season.

At the international level, Lookman played a key role in Nigeria’s journey to the final of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

He scored important goals in the knockout rounds, including two goals against Cameroon and one against Angola, which helped Nigeria reach the semi-finals. He was later named in the AFCON Team of the Tournament.

Both President Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu described Lookman as a national hero and an inspiration to young Nigerians.

They also encouraged him to continue making the country proud through sports.
