As the wind of speculation continues to hover over under-fire super cop, Abba Kyari following the testimony of confessed fraudster, Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, and the eventual order of arrest of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, his statement appears to have done more harm than good to his defence.
Popular investigative journalist, ‘Fisayo Soyombo, has questioned the policeman’s statement, terming it a “huge joke”.
Kyari, according to Abbas’ testimony revealed by US prosecutors, received a payment of around $1.1million to help facilitate the arrest of one Vincent Chibuzor, a business rival of the fraudster.
Responding to the allegations, Kyari said he only arrested Vincent after Abbas called to raise an alarm over a potential threat to his family’s life posed by Vincent, and on learning of the falsehood, released him on bail, but later helped Abbas connect with a clothes dealer whom he paid the sum of N300,000 to.
Questioning this statement, Soyombo, on Twitter said, “In Paragraph 4 of that statement he released this morning, ‘supercop’ Abba Kyari shot himself in the leg.
“While the fourth paragraph is significant, Paragraphs 1 and 2 hold the keys.
“By Kyari’s own account, Hushpuppi reached out to say someone was threatening his family in Nigeria.
“The Police arrested the person, investigated & found out ‘there wasn’t an actual threat to anyone’s life and they are longtime friends who have money issues between them’.
“By that account, Hushpuppi deceived the Police. He fed them the wrong information, wasted their time and caused them to unjustly detain the victim.
“As a crucial figure in crime-fighting at the highest levels of the Police that we’re made to think Kyari is, Hushpuppi’s deceit would have been considered serious offence. And on that basis, I cannot see why, ‘later’, Kyari linked Huspuppi to his tailor. ‘Later’ – not before!
“Someone lied to the Police and after discovering this lie, a senior Police chief then goes on to arrange for the deceiver to interact with his tailor and pay him N300,000?
“And then the tailor couldn’t send the clothes to any of Hushpuppi’s friends or family, but it was to the office of the Police? Unless we’re saying crime-fighting at that level is a huge joke…”
In Paragraph 4 of that statement he released this morning, ‘supercop’ Abba Kyari shot himself in the leg.
While the fourth paragraph is significant, Paragraphs 1 and 2 hold the keys.

“Friends: Abbas who we later came to know as Hushpuppi called our office about 2years ago that somebody in Nigeria Seriously threatened to kill his Family here in Nigeria and he sent the person’s Phone number and pleaded we take action before the Person attacks his family.

“We traced and arrested the Suspect and after investigations we discovered there wasn’t an actual threat to anyone’s life And they are long time friends who have money issues between them hence we released the Suspect on bail to go and he was not taken to any jail.
“Nobody demanded for a kobo from Abbas Hushpuppi. Our focus was to Save people’s lives that were purported to have been threatened.
“Later, he saw some of my Native Clothes and Caps on my social media page and he said he likes them and he was connected to the person selling the clothes and he sent about N300k directly to the person’s account. The Native Clothes and Caps (5 sets) were brought to our office and He sent somebody to Collect them in our office.
“Nobody demanded any money from Abbas Hushpuppi and nobody collected any money from him. We responded to a distress call he made on threat to his family and released the Suspect when we discovered there was no life threat from the Suspect. This is the true story. Vincent is alive, he can be contacted.
“For those who are celebrating that this is an indictment on us and mentioning some fictitious Big Money, They will be disappointed once again as our hands are clean and our record of Service for 2 decades is open for everybody to See. They will continue seeing us serving our father land and we will Continue responding to ALL distress Calls from ALL Nigerians provided they are life threatening.
“For Good Nigerians who appreciate our Service please don’t worry as our hands are clean and they should please not respond to those celebrating and creating many false Narratives without any Evidence. We are used to such types of people and false newsmakers and distributors.

Kyari’s arrest has been ordered by a US court.
