There is an increase in cases of attacks in Nigeria, alarming many nations, and U.S. is one of them. It issued a warning concerning Nigeria’s current security situation, but the government of Nigeria believes the nation’s capital, Abuja is safe.
Now, the Federal Government has firmly reassured the public that despite a recent security advisory issued by the United States Embassy, ‘Abuja remains safe’.
In a statement released on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that while foreign embassies have the right to caution their citizens, there is no specific or imminent threat currently facing the Federal Capital Territory.
The U.S. Embassy had earlier advised its citizens to avoid military and government establishments in Abuja.
According to the statement, the U.S. Embassy urges them to remain cautious, avoid crowded places, and adjust their routines to enhance personal safety.
No Cause For Alarm
In response, Idris clarified that Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies remained highly alert and proactive.
According to him, these agencies are working round the clock to protect lives and property, especially within the nation’s capital.
Also, he explained that the U.S. alert appeared to be based on broader global security dynamics rather than a direct threat within Nigeria.
“The security architecture in Abuja and across Nigeria has recorded considerable success in pre-empting and neutralising potential threats,” Idris said.
Also, he added that there was no cause for alarm.
