Newcastle has paid £12 million plus add-ons to Atletico Madrid for right-back Kieran Trippier.
The England right-back has agreed to a two-and-a-half-year deal with a one-year extension option.
Kieran Trippier is an English defender who played for La-Liga club Atletico madrid. He was signed from Tottenham Hotspurs on 17 July 2019 on a three-year contract, for a fee of £20 million plus add-ons.
Trippier won his first major trophy at the end of the 2020–21 season, as Atlético Madrid won La Liga on the final day of the season.
He said: “I’m so happy to be joining Newcastle. Everyone knows the fans are unbelievably passionate and I will give my absolute all for them. I can’t wait to get to work”.
“Thank you to everyone at the club & the fans for the very warm welcome I have received so far”
“I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I became aware of interest from Newcastle United, and having worked with Eddie Howe before, I knew this was where I wanted to be,” said Trippier.

When asked about the recent transfer, Eddie Howe, manager of the Magpies, had this to say:
“I am delighted to welcome Kieran to Newcastle United,” Howe added. I’ve long admired his abilities and followed his career, so when the chance to hire him emerged, we jumped at it.
“Long before the month began, a lot of hard effort went into arranging for the January transfer window, which shows in how swiftly we were able to make this relocation.”
Newcastle United’s owners are hoping to add at least three more players this month in order to keep the team in the Premier League.
After 19 league games this season, they are second-bottom on the league’s table and two points from relegation.
