THE Egbesu Sacred Order, a traditional religious institution in the Ijaw nation, has described the continuous silence of the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA militant group in the face of recent happenings in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, as a reflection that the claims of fighting for the interest of the region is a “mirage.”
The religious group while threatening to unleash its “divine rights” in fighting for the people of the region, also issued a two-week ultimatum to the national assembly to conclude and unveil what it described as those behind the daylight robbery of the Niger Delta people.
The group in a statement by its serving priest and speaker, Ellington Bakumor explained that though the Egbesu brotherhood is not a pacifist religious practice that requires kowtowing in the face of injustice, it has decided to rise to the occasion in defending the wealth and heritage of the people.
The statement reads: “We also call on IYC and all stakeholders in the region to rise to the occasion and save the NDDC and amnesty office from rots and corrupt people, and that the silence of the self-styled NDA who claim to be fighting for the interest of the common man of the Niger Delta is becoming a mirage.

“We support the ongoing probe by the national assembly to audit to the extent that the list of every company or individual that has taken part in the mismanagement and merciless looting of our collective wealth should be published irrespective of the owners profile.
“We will resist any form of arm twisting or blackmail that will result to the end of the national assembly probe, as it is the collective destiny of our people that is being carted away through fraud and financial misappropriations and we are giving two weeks for the conclusion of the probe to conclude the investigation and show Niger Delta people and indeed Nigerians those entities involved in the daylight robbery of our people.
“At the end of this ultimatum, we may lose confidence in the process of the national assembly and then re-express our right as divinely given to fight for the hopeless and downtrodden of the Niger Delta within the ambience of the law of the land.”
