Erling Haaland’s 12th-minute strike proved to be the decisive goal as Manchester City secured a hard-fought victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
The win boosts City’s hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League. Haaland’s goal came when he met Jeremy Doku’s low cross with a first-time side-footed finish into the bottom corner, having been left unmarked by the Tottenham defence.
Manchester City dominated the first half, with Savinho squandering a golden opportunity to double their lead.
The Brazilian’s shot from Doku’s cross bounced over the crossbar, leaving City to rue the missed chance.
Tottenham, on the other hand, struggled to create scoring opportunities in the first half, with their first shot on target coming in the 45th minute. Ederson, City’s goalkeeper, was equal to the task, tipping Kevin Danso’s header over the crossbar.
The second half saw a shift in momentum, with Tottenham pushing hard for an equalizer. Ederson was called into action again, this time to prevent Wilson Odobert’s deflected effort from looping over him.
Mathys Tel and Pape Sarr also had opportunities to level the score, but their efforts were off target.
The introduction of Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min from the bench further boosted Tottenham’s attack, with Son being denied an equalizer by Ederson in a thrilling finale.
In the end, Manchester City held on for a narrow victory, with Haaland’s goal proving to be the difference.
