Ahead of the November 12, 2024, handover, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has urged the state’s governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to establish a panel that would collaborate with his transition committee.

This effort aims to ensure a smooth transfer of power.

Obaseki proposed October 14, 2024, as the date for both panels to hold their first meeting.

Okpebholo, representing the All Progressives Congress, won the governorship election on September 21.

However, the results are currently being contested by Asue Ighodalo, the candidate from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

In a letter dated October 10, 2024, Secretary to the State Government Joseph Eboigbe urged Okpebholo to form a counterpart transition committee.

He emphasised the importance of this committee in facilitating a smooth power handover on November 12.

Obaseki had previously inaugurated a 20-member transition committee in July, chaired by Eboigbe.

This committee is tasked with ensuring a seamless transition of power and knowledge to the incoming administration.

Letter To Okpebholo

In his letter to Okpebholo, Eboigbe stated: “As we prepare for the transition of power, we believe it is crucial to establish a smooth and effective collaboration between your team and the current administration”.

He added: “To facilitate this process, we invite you and your party, the All Progressives Congress, to initiate the formation of your transition team at your earliest convenience.

“Establishing this team will allow us to begin meaningful discussions and share vital information that will ensure a seamless transfer of responsibilities and continuity of governance”.

“Consequently, October 14, 2024, is proposed for the inaugural meeting of both transition committees.

“We look forward to your prompt response and to working closely with you and your team in the coming weeks.

“Together, we can set the foundation for a successful administration that meets the expectations of our constituents,” he concluded.
