In a recent administrative move, President Bola Tinubu has appointed 9 new members to the governing councils of two prominent federal tertiary institutions.
These are the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Akwa Ibom State, and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, Kaduna State.
The Presidency announced the appointments on Wednesday, August 7.
It was contained in a statement signed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, entitled “President Tinubu appoints governing councils of two federal tertiary institutions”.
This decision is aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing the operational efficiency of these institutions, which play critical roles in the country’s aviation and maritime sectors.
Each council will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, financial management, and overall performance of these institutions.
At the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Akwa Ibom State, Tinubu appointed the following:
Kehinde Akinola — Chairman
Shehu Maigari Doguwa — Member
Samuel Isichei — Member
Faisal Lawal Halidu — Member

At the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, Kaduna State, he appointed:
Anthony Manzo — Chairman
Ngozi Okuoma — Member
Durungunwa Abdulmalik — Member
Biodun Taiwo — Member
Florence Toyin Olorunfemi — Member
The new council members are expected to bring diverse expertise and experience to their roles, which will contribute to the advancement of these vital educational and training centers.
President Tinubu’s appointments reflect a commitment to improving the governance of key educational institutions, ensuring they continue to produce skilled professionals and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
The President expects members of the governing boards of these institutions to “serve with integrity and devotion to the enhancement of their structural, academic, and all-around standards,” the statement added.
