Conor Gallagher has agreed to join Atletico Madrid from Chelsea in a £33m deal.
The 24-year-old England international had initially been hesitant about the move, but has now confirmed he is happy to join the Spanish side.
Gallagher is expected to fly to Madrid on August 7 to complete his medical and sign a contract, ending his 18-year association with Chelsea.
The midfielder had been offered a new two-year deal with an option for an extra year by Chelsea, but turned it down due to concerns over the length of the contract and his role in the squad.
New manager Enzo Maresca’s possession-based style of play was also seen as a poor fit for Gallagher, who would not have been a regular starter.
With less than a year left on his current deal, Chelsea opted to sell Gallagher overseas rather than to an English rival, allowing Atletico to secure a cut-price deal.
