The laborer, identified as Uchenna Eziekwe, and his 22-year-old wife, Chineye, were apprehended at Isolo General Hospital in Lagos.
That was were the transaction was scheduled to take place.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hudenyin, revealed that the couple was arrested on July 9, 2024.
Hudenyin said: “Around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Isolo Police Station received a tip-off about a couple trying to sell their baby at Isolo General Hospital.
Economic Hardship
“Officers quickly responded and arrested Uchenna and Chineye Eziekwe, preventing the sale of their child.

A Difficult Situation
He admitted the decision to sell their child was his and blamed it on economic hardship.
“It was a difficult decision, but we had no choice. We thought it would be better to sell him to someone who could care for him rather than let him starve.
I convinced my wife because of the tough times.
I work as a laborer at construction sites, and my wife has no job. It was a hard decision,” he said.
