Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has responded to the presidency after it stated that no state has been authorized to purchase automatic weapons for its security forces.

According to Akeredolu’s spokesperson, Richard Olatunde, the FG’s reason for refusing to allow state security outfits to carry arms is no longer feasible given the country’s current security issues.

The Governor also questioned why presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu is now defending the Katsina state government when the state government has yet to publicly deny the use of AK47s by Katsina State Vigilantes during training.

Akeredolu, who reiterated that he cannot fight gunmen with his bare hands, also stated that he is committed to the implementation of a constitutional amendment to reflect current realities.
