Amid the frantic search by relatives at the Civil Hospital in Asarwa, Ahmedabad, one survivor of the tragic Air India crash lies on a hospital bed, recounting the terrifying moments after takeoff.
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British citizen, had come to India for a brief family visit.
Also, he was returning to the UK with his elder brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, 45, when disaster struck.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Vishwash told Hindustan Times that just 30 seconds after the plane left the ground, everything changed.
“There was a loud noise, and then the plane went down. It happened so fast,” he recalled, visibly shaken, with injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet.
The ill-fated Air India flight, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to Gatwick, UK, carried 242 passengers and crew.
It departed from Ahmedabad at 1:38 pm on Thursday, but tragically crashed and caught fire within minutes of takeoff.
According to Vishwash, he and his brother had been seated in different rows, which added to his distress as he searched for him in the aftermath.
