
Sometimes, our bodies go through a process called purging. This often happens when we eat something that doesn’t agree with us, or when we’re clearing out toxins or adjusting to a new medication, skincare product, or even detoxing.
Purging can come with symptoms like diarrhoea, vomiting, skin breakouts, or constant visits to the toilet. While it can feel uncomfortable, purging is the body’s way of trying to clean itself and remove what it sees as harmful.
Instead of panicking, it’s important to know how to handle this process. Taking the right steps can help you feel better and recover faster.
1. Stay Hydrated
When your body is purging, especially through diarrhoea or vomiting, you lose a lot of water. This can make you feel weak, dizzy, or even cause headaches.
To stay safe, drink plenty of water, and if possible, add oral rehydration salts (ORS) to help replace lost fluids and minerals. Coconut water, clear soups, or diluted fruit juice can also help.
2. Get Plenty of Rest
Purging can make your body feel tired and drained. Don’t force yourself to stay active. Instead, rest as much as you can. Sleep helps the body heal faster.
Lie down, relax, and let your body recover. Avoid stressful activities and give yourself time to feel better.
3. Eat Light and Simple Foods
When the worst part of purging is over and you feel like eating, choose soft and bland foods. Good options include rice, toast, pap, bananas, and boiled potatoes.
Avoid spicy, oily, or fried foods until your stomach is fully settled. Eating light helps your body recover without stressing your digestive system.
