TETFund is reshaping its approach as it moves towards the 2026 intervention cycle. On Tuesday, the Fund announced plans to disburse ₦6.452Bn.

TETFund Funding With Expectations

At the stakeholders’ workshop, Executive Secretary Sonny Echono addressed heads of universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

Importantly, he framed the funding as a demand for stronger performance, not routine support.

Uniform Allocations Nationwide

Under the 2026 plan, TETFund will apply a uniform allocation structure.

First, each university will receive ₦2.525 billion.

Next, polytechnics will get ₦1.871 billion each.

Meanwhile, colleges of education will receive ₦2.056 billion per institution.

According to Echono, the Fund aims to strengthen infrastructure, improve teaching quality and boost research output.

Overall, TETFund will channel about 90.75% of the funds directly to institutions.

Specifically, this includes annual and special direct disbursement components.

Under the annual disbursement window, 271 institutions will benefit.

Notably, all universities will receive equal funding, regardless of age, size or enrolment.

Research, Systems And Accountability

Beyond funding, TETFund is investing in long-term academic systems.

From 2026, the Fund will integrate the TERAS platform with the Nigerian Research and Education Network.

As a result, institutions will gain better access to global academic resources.

At the same time, research development remains a top priority.

Currently, TETFund is building several specialised laboratories nationwide.

This year, the Fund will complete and commission four laboratories.

In addition, two more facilities will reach completion next year.

In the agricultural sector, TETFund is upgrading university farms with modern greenhouse technology.

Consequently, these upgrades will improve productivity and reduce labour demands.

Furthermore, the Fund is strengthening digital infrastructure.

TETFund will expand digital services and improve internet access across institutions.

However, Echono urged institutions to fully utilise their 2025 allocations.

Going forward, performance, enrolment and measurable progress will determine future funding.

Therefore, institutions with unspent funds may face delayed disbursements.

In recent years, TETFund has steadily increased funding.

In 2024, the Fund approved over ₦643 billion.

Then in 2025, allocations rose to about ₦700 billion.

Ultimately, as 2026 approaches, TETFund’s message is clear.

More funding will come, but expectations will rise.
