The Lagos State Government has officially cancelled the 2025 edition of the Greater Lagos Fiesta.
This is the annual end-of-year concert traditionally held on December 31.
The announcement was made via X by the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor, Mr Jubril Gawat.

He disclosed that the state had decided to call off the much-anticipated event scheduled for December 31, 2025.
The Greater Lagos Fiesta, organised yearly by the Lagos State Government, is regarded as one of the state’s biggest entertainment spectacles.
It often features top Nigerian music stars such as Olamide, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Seyi Vibez, and other A-list performers.
Mr Gawat’s post quoted an official statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile.
Also, this confirms that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu personally approved the cancellation.
According to the statement, instead of the usual countdown concert and festivities, the governor has urged Lagos residents to spend the end-of-year period in prayers for the nation, Lagos State, and its people.
Governor Sanwo-Olu encouraged Lagosians to seek divine guidance and pray for peace, prosperity, good leadership, productivity.
“Lagos State Government cancels Greater Lagos Fiesta 2025,” the statement read, confirming that the event scheduled for December 31 would no longer hold.
The governor also called on residents to use the period for reflection.
Also, it stresses the importance of unity, peace, and collective responsibility in building a better Lagos.
While wishing Lagosians a happy and prosperous new year, Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism about 2026.
Also, he assured residents that his administration remains committed to delivering meaningful development across the state.
“On behalf of my family, I wish every resident of our dear State a happy and prosperous new year,” the governor said, adding that his government would work harder to improve governance and the quality of life for residents.

He further appealed to Lagosians to continue living in peace and harmony, noting that cooperation and shared effort are vital to the state’s progress.
