The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has attributed the fatal road accident involving world-famous boxer Anthony Joshua to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
In an official statement released on Monday, the Corps confirmed that the crash occurred on December 29, 2025.

This was around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun State, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
According to the FRSC, the incident involved a black Lexus Jeep conveying Anthony Joshua and a stationary commercial Sinotruck parked by the roadside.
Preliminary reports from the Ogun Sector Command revealed that the crash happened at about 12:00 noon and was promptly reported to emergency responders.
FRSC operatives reportedly arrived at the scene within three minutes.
They carried out swift rescue operations, evacuating victims, controlling traffic, and preventing further accidents.
A total of five adult males were involved in the crash.
Also, two persons lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt
Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and reportedly suffered minor injuries.
The injured victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Ajaka, Sagamu.
The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division was also notified to handle further investigation and documentation.
FRSC stated that initial findings indicate the Lexus Jeep was likely travelling above the approved speed limit.
It lost control while attempting to overtake, leading to a collision with the stationary truck.
The Corps reiterated that speeding and wrongful overtaking remain major contributors to fatal crashes on Nigerian highways.

Expressing sympathy, FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased.
Also, he wished Anthony Joshua and the injured victim a speedy recovery.
