ISIS camps in Sokoto State faced destruction just after midnight on 26 December 2025.
In a joint Nigeria–U.S. operation, MQ-9 Reaper drones fired sixteen GPS-guided munitions directly at the camps.

The militants had established two major bases in the dense Bauni forest of Tangaza LGA.
Intelligence showed that foreign fighters collaborated with local militants to plan large-scale attacks inside Nigeria.
After weeks of reconnaissance, planning, and intelligence gathering, Nigerian and U.S. teams coordinated the strike carefully.
Precision Strikes Executed
Consequently, they launched the attacks from maritime platforms in the Gulf of Guinea, ensuring precision and safety.
By 1:30 a.m., the teams neutralised the targets, and debris landed in nearby towns.
Authorities immediately secured affected areas, keeping civilians safe and preventing further damage.

Security And Coordination
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu authorised the operation and coordinated closely with the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Moreover, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar confirmed that Nigeria provided the intelligence and maintained full sovereignty.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump authorised the mission, targeting ISIS bases near the Niger border.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth praised Nigerian cooperation and warned that further counter-terrorist actions could follow.
The operation reinforced Nigeria’s determination to control its national security and confront extremist threats decisively.
Authorities urged citizens to stay calm but remain vigilant while security forces continue decisive actions.
Furthermore, the strikes highlighted coordinated efforts with strategic partners to maintain border security and regional stability.
Finally, intelligence officers confirmed that the operation disrupted planned large-scale attacks, strengthening Nigeria’s counter-terrorism capabilities.
