Afrobeats star Davido has explained the reason behind his collaboration with fellow singer Omah Lay.
Davido said he reached out to Omah Lay after seeing a tweet where the singer admitted he once thought the DMW boss disliked him.
He recalled that the moment started during American streamer Kai Cenat’s visit to Lagos.
While driving Kai to a club, one of Omah Lay’s songs came on.
Davido said Kai asked who the artiste was.
He told him that Omah Lay was a talented and popular singer.
The shoutout happened during a livestream.
Omah Lay later reacted on social media.
He expressed surprise and said he had assumed Davido hated him.
Davido said he immediately sent Omah Lay a direct message.
He asked why the singer thought that way.
According to Davido, they exchanged contact details soon after.
They began working together in the studio.
The duo recorded about four songs.
Omah Lay later selected With You for release.
The song is one of the standout tracks on Davido’s fifth album, 5ive.
It has also been nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
