International rap star Nicki Minaj has appealed to fans to exercise greater compassion, understanding and patience when criticising Nigerian artistes.

Her comments come amid a wave of online backlash targeting several Nigerian entertainers this week.

Nicki Minaj Urges Fans To Show More Support And Patience Towards Nigerian Artistes

Burna Boy faced accusations of arrogance after “jokingly” remarking that he preferred having “only wealthy fans,” while Yemi Alade was heavily criticised for rejecting calls for American intervention in Nigeria’s escalating insecurity.

Other celebrities were also condemned for allegedly being insensitive to national tragedies

These includes the deadly terrorist attack on a church in Kwara State and the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi — after they shared unrelated posts on social media.

Responding to the rising tide of criticism, Minaj urged fans to approach Nigerian artistes with empathy rather than judgement.
In a message shared on her X account, she wrote:

My darlings, let’s utilise wisdom & compassion as it relates to our Nigerian artistes. There are very logical reasons for most things when we look not to judge, but to comprehend. That goes for every country & their artists. Let’s lift them up & continue to use wisdom.”

Her comments have sparked discussions online, particularly as she recently received praise from Nigerians for condemning jihadist attacks on Christians during a United Nations event in New York.
